Private practice: fees and reimbursement
I run a private practice without a health-insurance contract (“Wahlarzt”). You pay for the service directly and submit the invoice to your health insurance fund. As a rule, the fund reimburses around 80% of the amount a contracted doctor would have received for the same service. That is part of the fee, not all of it.
What you get in return: appointments at a fixed time instead of a waiting room, 45 minutes for an initial consultation, and findings that I explain to you myself. We will tell you the specific amount for your concern in advance on the phone.

Frequently asked questions about billing
How much will my health insurance fund reimburse?
As a rule, around 80% of the fund's own tariff for the service in question. Because that tariff is lower than a private doctor's fee, part of the cost remains with you. If you have supplementary private insurance, the remainder may be covered in full or in part.
How do I submit the invoice?
You receive an invoice containing all the required details. You upload it online to your health insurance fund or send it by post. Reimbursement usually follows within a few weeks.
How can I pay?
In cash, or by online bank transfer on your phone while you are at the practice.
What does an operation cost in total?
That depends on the procedure, the hospital and the length of your stay. Before the date you receive a written cost estimate that lists the doctor's fee, anaesthesia and hospital costs separately. You can use it to obtain confirmation of cover from your insurer.
